Raised in San Diego with her toes in the sand, Ashley has always been naturally drawn to the sea. She began learning to swim at age 2, was boogie-boarding Ocean Beach by 6, surfing at 12, and in 2013, became a full-fledged mermaid in a green silicone tail. Ashley has over a decade of professional modeling experience, including several years experience of underwater modeling, both in and out of her tail.
Ashley’s experiences- from exploring coastal caves to coral reefs, to gliding over seaweed beds swaying beneath the glassy water of the pacific in a kayak, and more- have inspired her full time career as a fine art artist; all of her work is inspired by marine life, and much of her work features divers and merfolk, and she is available for fantastical mermaid portrait commissions.
Though painting is Ashley’s main focus as an artist, she has explored and worked in many avenues of art; she has a deep love for henna body art, and the art of crafting mermaid and fantasy head pieces, and loves to share that passion with others–about 80% of materials used for headpieces, like sea shells and structuring materials have been thrifted or bought second hand, supporting reduce/reuse/recycle as often as possible.
Lastly, one of the most exciting and fun experiences Ashley likes to bring to the party, is the shucking of oysters for pearls, and making mermagically-custom color guides for the pearl colors available in each batch, and bringing capture necklaces for each pearl (and, where festivals and public events are concerned, this particular experience just may come with a pirate!)
